After a memorable summer working at the Sherwin Williams paint store in East Lansing, I spent the next four years at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH.  Learned a lot, made life-long friends, lettered in soccer and lacrosse, and met the love of my life.  Marie was also an English major and from New York, so fortunately she was intrigued by a Midwestern Eagle Scout.  After graduation Marie went to Philadelphia to teach and I enlisted in the Marine Corps.  A year later we married and will celebrate our 45th on August 10th.  With all my business travel, we figure it nets out to about 28 years, give or take. We have lived in Chicago for most of that time except for a year in Detroit and have owned homes in Florida since 1985.  We now split our time between Lincolnshire, IL and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

After the service and a couple of years with Scott Paper Company I joined Maremont Corporation, a Fortune 500 manufacturer of automotive products, attaining the role of Human Resources Vice President.  As the company made automotive performance products, I would have paid them to work there.  Fun aside, they gave me the opportunity to attend the Adler Institute Executive Program, earning certification in counseling.  Also while at Maremont, a colleague and I founded the Automotive Industry Training Council and served as their Chairmen.  Joined Helene Curtis in a similar H. R. role to work for an old boss and after a few years realized that consulting was going to be the path to pursue.  Worked for a large New York H. R. consulting firm, opening their Chicago Office with a good friend, and soon after wondered why we were sending all the checks to New York.

Opened O'Keefe Associates in 1990 as a Human Resources consulting practice with an emphasis on corporate sponsored outplacement.  Over the years we have had the privilege of assisting thousands of individuals with successful career transitions throughout the U. S., Canada and Europe.  Projects have ranged from plant closings to CEO terminations, with companies like Kraft, Pillsbury and Boston Market.  Still do a few projects a year for some wonderful clients who have become good friends and volunteer to assist those who struggle with long-term unemployment.

On the recreational side, we were involved in boating for many years, even visiting Bruce Long in St. John while chartering in the Virgin Islands.  We have been fortunate to have traveled to Europe and the U.K. numerous times thanks to business assignments. Raced motorcycles all over the Midwest and then switched to racing bicycles, as it doesn't hurt as badly when I fall off.   Toured extensively on the motorcycles until recently, so now it's just the bicycles.

Really looking forward to visiting with our terrific class, especially the members of the Class of '63 Safety Committee.
