Education, Military Service, Work History:

To summarize 50 years, it’s been a blast with a whole lot of ups and downs—both literally and figuratively.

Went to Western Michigan for a couple of years before taking a job with the U.S. Government.  They were kind enough to give me an intensive, year long flight training course followed by a free, all expense paid trip to beautiful, exotic Southeast Asia where I became one of the youngest (22 at that time) Aircraft Commanders in CH-47 Chinook helicopters.  Lots of fun taking troops and artillery in and out of landing zones with over 1100 hours of combat flying logged.  Most memorable event, the Tet Offensive in 1968 (trust me; you really had to be there to fully appreciate it).  My favorite quote from that time period---“I got shot up a lot,---but I never got shot down!!”  And yes, I have a number of friends with their name on the Vietnam Wall.  I finished my military career as a Chief Warrant Officer and helicopter instrument flight instructor.

If you’ve watched the video, my wife said I forgot to mention why I flew low level so much---It was to reduce our exposure time (the VC didn’t have time to get a shot off.

My cardiologist believes that SALF&CMWS (Sudden Airline Food & Crew Meal Withdrawal Syndrome) was the primary cause of my heart attack in 2008.

Claims to fame (books, awards, etc.):

I really don’t have any.  I have always believed that, as a general rule, it is not a good thing for an airline captain to have his name on the front page, unless you put one in the Hudson.  Awards?  A bunch of medals and ribbons from Vietnam.  Don’t talk about them much.  Added to a $5 bill, I can get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.  Haven’t written any books, all evidence to the contrary.  A life full of ups and downs (no pun intended—yes there was).  And that, in a nutshell is 50 years since June 13, 1963

One last startling statistic, approximately 30% of all traffic fatalities in the U.  S. are caused by drunk drivers!!!!  THAT’S TERRIBLE!!  So what that is really saying is that 70% that’s SEVENTY PERCENT of all traffic fatalities are caused by SOBER DRIVERS!!!!!  That being said----It’s 5 o’clock somewhere----Hope to see y’all in August.
