Dr. John Schrader grew up in an Army Family and lived in many different places around the United States and the world. Both his father and grandfather were graduates of West Point. He received his undergraduate degree, a BA in English, from the University of Michigan in 1968 with secondary school education certification. He graduated with honors in 1977 from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After working for 2 years as an associate veterinarian at Kibby Park Animal Hospital in Jackson, Michigan, he moved to Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania and purchased Montgomery Animal Hospital. He is married to Karen, and they have two beautiful, grown daughters, Rebecca and Carolyn. Rebecca is married with two children – Wesley and Josephine. She is also practicing veterinarian and is part of our Montgomery Animal Hospital Team. Carolyn is married and works part time for Montgomery Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician and part time at Lankenau Hospital as a Nuclear Medicine Technician. Dr Schrader spent 4 years in the Army as an officer in the Transportation Corps where he achieved the rank of Captain, flew helicopters and served one tour of duty in Viet Nam. His hobbies include ham radio (call sign W8FJ), digital photography, grilling and enjoying nice bottles of red wine.
