After graduating from MSU in March of 1967, I married Jim Harris, a Lansing Everett High School 1962 grad. (Yes, he was the Everett football player that made the winning score in the EL - Everett game in October 1961 - a story he likes to tell! ...0-6. It was all about the “shotgun” play.)

I began my professional teaching career in Detroit while Jim was in law school. I also taught at Fort Bragg, N. C. while he was in the Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps. During his army service, our son Mitchell was born at Ft. Bragg, N.C. and our daughter Catherine in Charlottesville, Va. (When Jim was assigned at the JAG school at U. Va., it was great seeing Ann Berg, whose husband was stationed there as well! Small world!)

In 1975, we moved to Reston, Va. (about 20 miles west of D.C.) I did not go back into teaching full time until our children were middle school students.

I retired 3 years ago after a very rewarding teaching career in Fairfax County.

We are fortunate that our son and his family live in Reston. We love participating in our grandchildren’s lives! Spencer 11 and Katie 9 keep us very busy and happy. I regularly volunteer at their school as well as the school where I taught. (The same school that our own children, Mitch now 42 and Catherine now 39 attended!)

Jim and I enjoy traveling when we can get away. We kept my parents home in Boca Raton, a now familiar city where our family can spend time in the Florida sunshine. We also often travel to Nevada where our daughter and her husband live with their 4 dogs! Last summer the family traveled to the London Olympics, as well as a short trip to Michigan for a family reunion in the Charlevoix/East Jordan area. On our way back home to Virginia we stopped briefly in East Lansing. I am looking forward to returning for the reunion!

My current hobbies/interests are our grandchildren, elementary school volunteer, photography, entertaining, baking and collecting retired American Girl Doll paraphernalia for my granddaughter.

I have won and been nominated for various teacher awards and was selected as teacher of the year by Phi Delta Kappa in 2000. Graduate study was done at U. Va., George Mason and Wayne State.

I want to thank the reunion committee for all the work they have done, especially locating all the grads and setting up the websites for photos etc. They have really helped to make this 50th reunion an exciting and interactive adventure!
