Personal Information:    • Name when in high school yearbook:  Steve Jones  • High school nickname:   Bender, Jonesy  • Legal name today (if different):   NA  • What do people call you now? :   Steve, Grandpa Steve, Grandpa  • Address: Vancouver, WA (across the Columbia from Portland, OR)  • Email contact:   sjones1871@gmail.com  • Phone number (if you want):   (360) 991-3402 Current life situation:   Retired   Family, education, and employment history:   After graduation in 1963 I spent the summer living with my sister in northern California working in a lumber mill then went off to Central Michigan.  I graduated in 1967 and stayed on for a Masters (1969) where I developed the interest in academics and taught biology there until 1971.   I met my wife Anne (Traverse City girl) there and we celebrate our 43rd anniversary this summer.  In 1971 we moved to Columbia, Missouri where we both went to grad school and I earned a Ph.D. in Physiology in 1975.  I took a Post Doctoral position at Loyola University Chicago (Stritch School of Medicine) and that turned into a career path.
I retired from Loyola as Professor Emeritus in 2007.  I taught in the Medical School and Graduate School, wrote grants and research papers, directed graduate students and for many years was administrator for the Ph.D. program in my department.   While at Loyola I was able to take my family on sabbaticals to Ottawa, Ontario and Melbourne, Australia. For most of our years in the Chicago area we lived in Downers Grove.   Anne and I have three children: Trevor (1974), Seth (7196) and Bronwen (1979) and all are Loyola Grads and they all live across the Columbia River from us in Portland, OR.  We have 4 grandchildren and enjoy having then close by.  I always wanted to live in the west (worked a logging job in the woods after my jr year at CMU) but could never get it together until I turned 60 when we moved to Vancouver.  Since moving out here I have taught half time at a local college and just retired from that gig this June.   We enjoy the northwest with biking, kayaking, boating and in the past year have added a travel trailer.  The Oregon coast is one of our favorite places although the area around Mt Hood and Mt Adams get high marks.  I enjoy gardening (dahlias and roses) and landscaping and making vessels out of sheet copper – process is called hammer raising.  Hopefully, Tom Leach still has my pictures that I brought to the 25th that I hope you enjoy.  A big thanks to the committee for all the planning and web site preparation making it possible for us all to re-connect.
